Innovation Potential Indicator

Creativity is the conception of new ideas, whereas innovation is the implementation of these ideas.

The Innovation Potential Indicator is designed to identify the ability to implement innovative ideas in the workplace. Developed by Dr Fiona Patterson, the innovation potential Indicator measures four separate characteristics and behaviours that are indicative of innovation potential:

Motivation to change
An individual's intrinsic motivation to seek and adopt change. It assesses at readiness to tackle new and previously unsolved problems. High motivation to change is correlated with innovation potential.

Challenging behaviour
An individual's level of comfort when challenging other peoples' way of thinking and points of view, in order to solve problems at work. High challenging behaviour is correlated with innovation potential

Adaptation An individual's likelihood to improve existing procedures or to be original. The latter is correlated with innovation potential as is a preference for working outside existing structures and making decisions on gut feeling and instinct.

Consistency of work style
An individual's preference for an organised and structured work environment or one with variety and flexibility. The latter is correlated with innovation potential
